Tubog (officially Barangay Tubog) is one of the 44 barangays constituting the municipality of Ubay, in the province of Bohol, Philippines.

The barangay's total land area is approximately 514[2] and has a population of 868[3] as of 2007. In the last 2010 National election, it has 482[4] registered voters.

Barangay Tubog celebrates its annual fiesta every May 16 in honor of their patron saint.

Location

Located on the western part of the municipality, barangay Tubog is bounded by barangay Tuboran to the north. It is bounded by barangay Camali-an to the west, to the south, by barangay Pag-asa, and to the east by barangay Bay-ang. It has approximate distance of 11 km from the town center, Poblacion.

History

In the year 1948, barangay Tubog was sitio of Camambugan. It was called sitio Tubog because of a tree called tubog which has a small round fruit all around its trunk and branches, abudantly found in the area at that time, especially in the river bank.

Sitio Tubog was then composed of 18 households only, headed by Julian Payot as teniente del barrio as the ranked called. Several years laters, Aurelio Payot suceeded him.

It was separated from its mother barangay as an independent Barangay itself in 1957. Paulo Golosino was chosen as Teniente del Barrio and was succeeded by Victor Golosino due to his untimely death.

Government

There are seven puroks or units in the barangay manned by the elected kagawads including the Punong Barangay or Barangay chairman.

An election of Barangay Captain was proclaimed nationwide in the year 1982. Esteban Bernales won the seat until he was replaced by 1st councilmen Procopio Benigay as OIC in the mid-year of 1985 when Pres. Corazon Aquino, replaced all the incumbent, from cabinets down to the Barangay Captain.

Nationwide election came in 1989, intended only for Barangay officials the ruling of the election was this, all candidates will run as Barangay Kagawad only and the one who obtain the highest votes will be automatically proclaimed as Barangay Captain and the following six will be Kagawad in their respective seats.

Engr. Rodrigo Sayon, a newly resident and came from Cebu City got the highest landslide votes as compared to the incumbent and OIC officials. He holds his seat from 1989 up to 2002 without defeat for 3 consecutives terms.

Again nationwide election came in July 15, 2002 intended for Barangay officials together with the Sangguniang Kabataan election. Incumbent Barangay Captain Rodrigo Sayon run against Esteban Bernales. The Sangguniang Kabataan, Anselmo Pino Jr. candidates for SK Chairman againts Rogerick Tubo.

After the ashes, Anselmo Pino Jr. won as SK Chairman and Esteban Bernales won as Barangay Captain.

Economy

People in the barangay are mostly farmers live by planting rice, camote, cassava, banana, and other vegetables. Some have small lots of agricultural land. A portion of population also weaves mats, produce palm oil and coconut products.
